Happy Visits
Dr. Collura is a family dentist committed to providing your child with quality dentistry in a happy, child-friendly environment. Establishing good habits early, in a way that feels safe and fun, is one of the best ways to promote a lifetime of great oral health.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children visit the dentist soon after the first tooth erupts or by their first birthday. This is especially true if you have concerns surrounding the condition of your child’s teeth. During the first visit, Dr. Collura will examine the teeth and gums and check for signs of decay or other problems, including development abnormalities. Early checkups give our dentist and team the opportunity to spot any noticeable symptoms before they become bigger issues. We’ll also provide helpful tips regarding at-home care.
Early visits are a great way to establish a positive relationship between your child and his or her dentist. We understand all children are different and will have different attitudes towards their dental visits. Dr. Collura and his staff take every effort to make your child’s visit enjoyable. Even simple steps– like giving your child a ride in the dental chair–can help your child learn that visiting the dentist isn’t scary. Parents are always welcome in the treatment room if you feel it will make your child more comfortable.
The Importance of Pediatric Dentistry
Despite the temporary nature of your child’s teeth (although many of the teeth remain until 11-13), pediatric dentistry is as important as dental visits for adults. Keeping “baby” teeth healthy and intact for as long as possible serves a variety of purposes:
- Saving space for permanent teeth
- Facilitating normal speech development
- Contributing to proper nutrition
- Giving permanent teeth a healthier start
- Preventing pain and fear of the dentist
We look forward to meeting your child as well as becoming partners in his or her oral health. Call our office to schedule your child’s visit today!
